Air freight charter for time-critical shipments

Do you need additional flight capacity or a connection that fits your shipment? Dörrenhaus organizes air freight charter as a part or full charter. We coordinate the flight solution, pickup, clearance, and delivery of your goods and schedules.

Charter flights in case of schedule and capacity constraints

Your cargo is ready, but there is no space on the appropriate flight connections. Or a larger shipment must arrive at a date that the available connections do not cover. In such situations, air freight charter can open up additional options.

Dörrenhaus examines which solution best suits your transportation needs. The key factors are the type of goods, the dimensions of the package, weight, distance, and the latest delivery date for the recipient. This determines whether a regular air freight connection is sufficient or whether a charter transport is advisable.

Our team coordinates the flight solution with the pre- and post-flight logistics steps. In addition to air freight chartering, you can also include pickup, customs clearance, storage, and onward transport in the planning. We will work with you to determine the required scope of services.

What does air freight charter mean?

In air cargo charter, the capacity of an aircraft is booked in full or in part for an agreed transport assignment. A full charter covers the entire aircraft, while in a partial charter, an agreed percentage of capacity is used. Dörrenhaus organises the transport as a freight forwarder; the flight is handled by the operating airline.

When is freight charter worth it?

The decision to use air freight charter depends on the benefits that the additional transport option brings to your company. This could include the timely delivery of production materials or the timely delivery of larger quantities of goods.
Therefore, compare the charter cost with the available alternatives and the possible consequences of a late delivery. A charter is particularly worth considering if cargo space, shipment size, and deadline all require an individual solution.

Part charter or full charter: Which solution is right?

Dörrenhaus offers both variants of air freight charters. Which one is suitable depends on your capacity needs, the available connection, and the desired process.

Sub-charter: use a share of capacity

In part-charter, an agreed portion of the aircraft capacity is used for your cargo. This option is suitable when the shipment does not require a full aircraft and a suitable charter connection can be found.

We are checking whether the route, available capacity, and schedules all fit together. However, coordination with the rest of the flight planning remains an important component of the solution.

Full charter: book the entire aircraft

With full charter, an aircraft is chartered for the agreed transport task. This can make sense in the case of extensive deliveries or special requirements for the connection.

Dörrenhaus agrees the air freight charter with the operating airline based on actual load data, the required route and the time window. The availability of the appropriate aircraft is checked for the specific request.

Air freight charter costs: What determines the calculation

For air freight charter, there is no standard price per kilogram. Especially for full charter, the required flight operation is calculated. The aircraft type, route, availability, and, if applicable, the positioning of the aircraft at the departure point all influence the price.

In addition, services such as loading and unloading, terminal handling, customs clearance, and road transport are included. Which services are included in the offer must be determined for the specific transport solution. Therefore, a comparison should always consider the same pickup and delivery scope.

For your air freight charter request, Dörrenhaus specifically requires:

  • Product and packaging details: Description, number of packages, external dimensions and gross weights.
  • Locations and dates: Pickup address, delivery address, goods delivery, and latest delivery date.
  • Special requirements: Packaging, stacking ability, sensitive components, or special handling requirements.
  • Desired services: Collection, customs clearance, storage and delivery, as well as the agreed delivery terms.

Clarify cargo dimensions and load capacity in advance

The total volume alone does not determine whether a shipment fits into a specific aircraft. Pack size dimensions, weight, and the possibilities for safe loading must also be taken into account.

Photographs or technical drawings help with the coordination of unusual packing items. Goods with special requirements regarding packaging, labeling, or handling are inspected separately before booking.

This is how Dörrenhaus organizes your air cargo charter

1. Take on the transport task
We clarify your shipment details, the services required, and the delivery date. It is important to know when the goods are actually ready and when they must be available to the recipient.

Vote on the 2nd charter solution
Dörrenhaus is examining the appropriate capacity and connection with the participating partners. Partial charters, full charters, and available regular air freight options are arranged according to your requirements.

3. Prepare for pick-up and check-in
After agreeing on the flight solution, we coordinate the agreed goods pickup and delivery at the airport. Documents, packaging, and acceptance conditions must be in compliance before loading.

4. Coordinate arrival and delivery
At the destination, the agreed handling and onward transport services are provided. This way, your air cargo charter is linked to the steps leading up to the delivery to the receiver.

Involve customs clearance and documents

Even for an urgent charter transport, the required commercial, transport and customs documents must be available. Our own customs departments in Velbert, Cologne and Hamburg support the processing via the electronic customs system ATLAS.

Please also let us know which delivery terms you have agreed with your business partner. This way, the scope of services assigned can be aligned with the responsibilities in import or export in advance.

FAQ

This depends on the available machine, the route, the required handling steps, and the readiness of your goods. Dörrenhaus examines short-term charter requests based on these details. A specific departure or arrival time is coordinated for the respective transport.

No. In addition to full charters, Dörrenhaus offers part charters. A full charter does not have to be fully booked; the required transport solution and its cost-effectiveness are decisive factors. Which variant is suitable is assessed based on your shipment and the available capacities.

Express describes the service aimed at providing rapid transportation. Charter refers to the booking of a full or partial aircraft capacity. Therefore, an urgent shipment does not automatically require a charter flight. Dörrenhaus examines both options as part of its transport planning.

This must be checked for the specific shipment. Relevant factors include the weight and dimensions of the individual packages as well as the requirements for loading and handling. To provide an initial assessment, please provide us with exact packing details and, if applicable, photos or drawings. It is not possible to derive a general suitability for each item from this information.

Yes. These services can be included in the organization of your air cargo charter. Together, we determine which transport segments and additional services Dörrenhaus will handle. This way, the inquiry is already clear whether an airport-to-airport transport or a more comprehensive handling is required.
